Hey Friends,

Building better habits and creating consistency over time is the best way to create lasting change. No one knows how one daily habit can help change a life better than High Performance Coach Chad Weller, who has run consistently every day for over 2,000 days! That’s 5 ½ years of consistent running.

We all know consistency over time is the key to success, so why is it so hard?

Recently, I’ve struggled with consistency and after my podcast recording with High Performance Coach and all-around inspirational dude, Chad Weller, I was inspired to re-commit to consistency.

Small daily/weekly acts over time in order to achieve a larger goal.

Placed with a fear of my own son picking up on my poor habit of inconsistency, I decided to have a chat with him about the subject.

The “talk” went better than expected once he understood the definition of consistency.

His 11-year-old brain had a fairly good handle on time and just how long it takes to accomplish something through consistency.

I asked my son if there was anything he would like to be consistent in, and he immediately replied with the following three areas:

YouTube
Soccer
Scootering

I then asked my son, if you were consistent with practicing each of these activities over a period of time, so 2 video uploads a week to YouTube, 20 minutes of at-home soccer practice five days a week, and scootering 15 minutes a day, how long would it take to achieve an outcome of satisfactory improvement?

A year to two years was his answer.

The wisdom of this answer was a slap in the face to all the internet promises of quick achievement. So many charlatans claim change in twelve weeks or 90 days. Yes, you can commit to a physical challenge and create a change in physique over this short amount of time, but for lasting health and success, change takes years.

We forget this.

And, it’s also why consistency is so terribly difficult.

The other reason consistency is hard is because we do not see change in real time. As we’re practicing a new habit daily or weekly, our improvement comes quickly at first, but after a certain level of competency, improvement slows, frustration grows, motivation halts, and we quit.

We must have both a strong ‘why’ along with a simple system to help us stay consistent over time.

Here’s a YouTube video of me explaining the conversation I had with my son about consistency and the one key element that can make a huge difference: Consistency Over Time is Undefeated
